The 7th International Conference on eXtreme Programming and Agile Processes in Software Engineering
June 17 - 22, 2006, Oulu, Finland

Agile software development methods and solutions have drawn a lot of attention in the software industry in recent years. The rapidly growing scientific and practical evidence show many quality gains including increased productivity, better quality and increased customer satisfaction. Agile innovations are currently moving into new domains, such as the embedded development industry, safety-critical products and other complex development environments. Movement towards business agility is also emerging in the field.

Agile software development is a conceptual framework for undertaking software engineering projects. There are a number of agile software development methodologies, such as those espoused by the Agile Alliance, a non-profit organization.

Most agile methods attempt to minimize risk by developing software in short timeboxes, called iterations, which typically last one to four weeks. Each iteration is like a miniature software project of its own, and includes all the tasks necessary to release the mini-increment of new functionality: planning, requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, and documentation. While an iteration may not add enough functionality to warrant releasing the product, an agile software project intends to be capable of releasing new software at the end of every iteration. At the end of each iteration, the team reevaluates project priorities.

Join us as two experts from the developer’s world and one from university will present their findings on agile development. The goal is to raise awareness of some issues not widely known by the systems development community. Speakers at this event include Ward Cunningham of Cunningham & Cunningham, who is one of the Agile Alliance founders, Wayne Allen of Corillian and Gregory Rose of Washington State University – Vancouver.

March 2005 MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT

TOPIC: Agile Government...is it possible?

The next Portland XP Users Group meeting (http://xpdx.org ) will be on Tuesday, 8th March 2005. It will be held at the OGI School of Science & Engineering at OHSU, 20000 NW Walker Road, Beaverton, in room WCC 403 (upstairs above the cafe@OGI).

Mark Clerget & Jake Lawlor of the Consultants Guild will be leading a discussion on the topic of "Agile Government...is it possible?":

Have you heard someone say "Oh we tried Agile on a project and it didn't work" only to hear someone else say "Agile is the only process that I use and it works great"? So who is right? If you would like to learn the keys to ensuring successful adoption/implementation of Agile in the most challenging of environments, be sure to attend the March XPDX meeting. Join Mark Clerget as he shares his successful experience implementing Agile in the most unfamiliar of surroundings....Government!

Scott Came will be participating in the proceedings of the Court Filing Technical Committee, focused on finalizing requirements for the upcoming version of the OASIS court filing standard.

Scott Came will be serving as chair of this committee charged with coordinating the development of reference exchange documents initiated by prosecutors.
